Calls for tax breaks for home security

The security industry has called for tax breaks for householders installing crime prevention measures.

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) warned that households without adequate security measures were "vulnerable targets" for criminals.

It highlighted figures from the British Crime Survey, which showed that homes without any security measures were almost ten times more likely to be victims of burglary.

BSIA Chief Executive, David Dickinson, said: "These findings show that security measures have enormous potential to prevent crime and lower crime rates.

"Unfortunately, householders without these measures are more vulnerable. We have long believed that such valuable crime prevention measures should be given tax breaks."
