John Phillips
Training and Consultancy Manager - BSc(Hons) CMIOSH John has a background in electronics and electrical engineering obtained in the aviation, railway signals and telecommunications industries. During this time he was involved in the safety and quality elements of civil engineering projects and railway operations.
Since 1996 John has delivered health and safety consultancy and training. An experienced NEBOSH tutor, John is currently the Principal Examiner for National Diploma Assignments, including Unit D. John has a psychology degree and has a keen interest in human factors.

Paul Cartwright
Lead Consultant - South, CStJ. BA(Ed) IEng FCIPHE CFIOSH Paul began his career in the building mechanical services industry, later specialising in construction as lecturer within the Further Education sector.
He has maintained a keen interest in the management and legal status of health and safety within voluntary sector.
Since 1987 Paul has been a tutor. He has a broad experience in consultancy and training, specialising in the NEBOSH National Certificate and Diploma programmes specifically.

Eur Ing Kevin Chicken
Lead Consultant - North, BA(Hons) MSc CEng MIMechE MIQA CFIOSH Kevin gained executive engineering experience as a Chief Engineer Officer in the Merchant Navy prior to joining the company in 1984. Kevin initially worked as an Engineer Surveyor before being appointed a health and safety consultant.
Kevin delivers consultancy projects and services to a wide range of major clients with extensive experience in introducing health and safety management systems. Kevin is an experienced trainer and examiner to NEBOSH Diploma level and has been engaged to give expert evidence in criminal court proceedings.

James Draper
Product Development Consultant, BSc(Hons) LLM Dip2.OSH SP.DipEM CMIOSH James, an environmental sciences graduate, began his health and safety career as a trainee occupational hygienist in the petrochemical industry. James also occupied positions as a consultant occupational hygienist and safety officer in the waste management industry, before moving into a training and consultancy role.
As a consultant with Norwich Union Risk Services, James delivers a wide range of training and consultancy services and also has product development responsibilities.

Andrew Couch
Consultant, BSc(Hons) CMIOSH AIEMA With a degree in occupational health and safety, Andrew has been continuously involved in the industry for over 25 years. He has a very wide range of experience across numerous sectors including engineering, plastics, woodworking, food, retail and distribution.
Prior to joining Norwich Union Risk Services he worked as a health and safety adviser in the NHS and in a fire safety role for a major wholesale and retail business. Andrew is an experienced trainer who delivers a wide range of technical courses with a particular interest in health and safety management.

Simon Cook
Consultant, Pgd CMIOSH Simon initially trained as an industrial chemist, working within the speciality chemicals and pharmaceutical sectors. With over 14 years experience in a health and safety role, Simon was responsible for implementing health and safety management systems within chemical manufacturing and storage facilities including Top Tier COMAH sites.
Simon went on to work for a national insurer as a risk reduction surveyor. As a consultant with Norwich Union Risk Services, he provides advice, consultancy, training and support for key customers.

David Dainty
Consultant, BSc(Hons) MCIEH CMIOSH Cert.Occ.Hyg. AIEMA David initially trained as an environmental health officer working in local government. In 1988 he became a safety and hygiene adviser for a major food manufacturer, advising senior managers on food hygiene, pest control, occupational safety and the working environment.
David provides consultancy support to a number of major clients in areas such as risk assessment and occupational health assessments. He also provides ‘competent person’ support to large clients in the commercial and public sectors.

Michael Fricker
Consultant, CMIOSH Michael has a background in electronics and electrical engineering obtained in the steel industry. His involvement in health and safety began in 1994, working in the steel industry for 5 years, chemical and gas for 2 years and the commercial insurance sector for 7 years.
Michael joined Norwich Union Risk Services in 2008. He is an experienced NEBOSH tutor and examiner and is currently the NEBOSH Principal Examiner for the Open Assessment in Occupational Safety & Health for IOSH. He also sits on the IOSH Peer Panel for Chartered Membership.

David Graves
Consultant, BSc(Hons) PGDipEDM(Open) FCII CMIOSH AIEMA David has a background in chemistry and the environment. Following graduation he was employed by a major insurer to provide fire and health and safety auditing and specialist chemical advice.
He has a strong interest in environmental issues and holds the post graduate Diploma in environmental management. He has been involved in health, safety and environmental consultancy and training since 1986. David is an experienced NEBOSH tutor who leads our environmental training courses.

Paul Knight
Consultant, ACII MIRM, Grad.IOSH Paul’s background is in risk management. Prior to joining the training and consultancy team, he gained 15 years experience completing property and safety surveys of a diverse range of commercial and industrial businesses. In his current role, he delivers training and consultancy services to our customers.
Paul is also a former examiner for the risk control module of the Institute of Risk Management’s Diploma qualification.

Alan Lee
Consultant, CMIOSH Eng.Tech.MIEE Following a career in the electrical contracting industry Alan's safety experience spans the manufacturing, construction and engineering industries.
Alan specialises in the provision of health and safety support, the implementation of management systems and in-company training courses for clients in a wide range of industries.

Roger Lye
Consultant, Grad.IOSH Roger’s interest in health and safety began when he became a lecturer in motor vehicle engineering. He then worked for a large multi-site automotive glazing organisation developing, implementing and monitoring risk management systems across health, safety, quality and environmental disciplines.
IImmediately prior to joining Norwich Union Risk Services, Roger was responsible for leading the development and delivery of the RAC’s health and safety training programmes for the entire management population. In his present role, Roger delivers a wide range of health and safety training and provides advice and support services to clients.

Jessica Nicholls
Consultant, TechIOSH Jess’s background is in delivering health and safety services in a wide range of environments, including oil and gas, aerospace, printing, manufacturing and the insurance industry.
She joined the Norwich Union Risk Services consultancy team in 2008, and delivers a range of accredited courses and consultancy services. Jess has a genuine interest in the subject and a great deal of enthusiasm for delivering high quality health and safety training.

Brian Prout
Health and Safety Consultant, CMIOSH SpDipEM MIIRSM AIEMA Brian has worked for Norwich Union since 1986, in a wide variety of risk management roles. Immediately prior to joining the consultancy team, he was a Liability Risk Adviser, surveying customers premises to identify the key liability risks and how they could be minimised.
Brian undertakes a wide variety of health and safety consultancy work across a large and diverse range of industries, and tutors on the NEBOSH National General Certificate, International Certificate and Diploma courses, as well as the full range of IOSH courses.

Steve Ross
Consultant, BSc CMIOSH Steve has an electrical engineering background gaining 23 years experience in a manufacturing environment. He was appointed health and safety advisor to a large wallpaper manufacturer gaining experience in retail, warehousing, and distribution.
Steve is a consultant with considerable experience in delivering IOSH and NEBOSH accredited courses up to Diploma level. He has also been involved in the development and delivery of a wide range of specialist courses including electrical safety, manual handling and permits to work. He provides a range of consultancy services including initial status reviews and auditing safety management systems.

Graham Smith
Consultant, IEng MIAgrE CFIOSH MIMI FIIRSM FRSH Graham has a background in agricultural and mechanical engineering. He was involved in the development of chemical treatment equipment before becoming heavily involved in health and safety.
As a consultant he has developed and delivered training for enforcement officers in the motor vehicle fast fit industry. He has also worked extensively with power transmission for the past 12 years. Graham is a very experienced tutor delivering IOSH courses and the NEBOSH Diploma and Certificate since 1996. Graham has been a NEBOSH examiner since 2001.

Barbara Taylor
Consultant, JP CMIOSH Barbara was previously a Principal Officer in local government covering sectors including education, social services, leisure, transport services, horticulture, property services, housing and the primary care trust. Her responsibilities included the design and implementation and monitoring of safety and health management systems with particular interest in the management of stress and wellbeing of staff. Barbara has also acted as a consultant providing training and support to companies operating in the Middle East.
As a consultant with Norwich Union Risk Services, Barbara delivers a wide range of training and consultancy services and will also look at 'bespoke' courses to meet your companies training needs.

Helen Toll
Consultant, MSc BSc CMIOSH AIEMA Helen, a psychology graduate, began her health and safety career as a health and safety inspector with the HSE. She gained experience of a variety of employment sectors ranging from engineering and manufacturing to schools and hospitals.
Helen has since held senior health and safety positions within the local authority and university sectors. Immediately prior to joining Norwich union Risk Services she was UK health, safety, environment and security Manager for The Wrigley Company, a global confectionary manufacturer. Helen specialises in strategic health and safety management, system development and auditing, occupational stress, safety culture and behaviour–based safety.
